5 Days Gorilla & Chimpanzee Safari

Uganda is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts, offering rare opportunities to trek endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and track playful chimpanzees in the pristine Kyambura Gorge. This 5-day safari combines Uganda’s most iconic primate encounters with stunning landscapes, cultural interactions, and optional wildlife sightings in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Perfect for adventurers and nature lovers, this safari provides a carefully planned balance of trekking, relaxation, and immersive experiences.

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Bwindi

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will embark on a scenic drive southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Along the way, enjoy picturesque hills, local villages, and roadside markets. Stop for lunch en route and capture photos of Uganda’s breathtaking scenery.

Upon arrival in Bwindi, check into your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest early to prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Wake up early for breakfast before heading to the Bwindi park headquarters for a ranger briefing. You will be assigned a gorilla family and guided through the dense rainforest.

The trek lasts between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing them, taking photos, and enjoying their natural behavior. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon. Optionally, you can take a cultural visit to a Batwa community nearby to learn about their unique traditions.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge

After breakfast, transfer to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking. The trek through the gorge offers opportunities to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat, along with other wildlife and bird species.

In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, spotting elephants, buffalo, lions, and hippos. Conclude the day at a lodge near the park, enjoying dinner and relaxation.

Day 4: Optional Second Gorilla Trek or Wildlife Exploration

This day provides flexibility for a second gorilla trek in Bwindi (depending on availability of permits) or additional wildlife exploration in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for tree-climbing lions.

Return to your lodge in the evening, enjoy local cuisine, and relax under the stars after a full day of wildlife encounters.

Day 5: Departure – Transfer Back to Entebbe

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Entebbe, with optional stops at viewpoints, local markets, and cultural sites along the way. Arrive in the evening at Entebbe International Airport, concluding your 5-day Gorilla & Chimpanzee Safari, filled with unforgettable wildlife and cultural experiences.
