Upon arrival in Mgahinga, check into your lodge or tented camp nestled near the forest. After lunch, you can take a short orientation walk around the lodge to acclimatize to the environment and spot some of the smaller wildlife like monkeys, birds, and butterflies. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner while overlooking the scenic volcanic hills, and rest well for the exciting trekking day ahead.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga
Wake up early for breakfast and proceed to the Mgahinga Park Headquarters for a briefing from your experienced park ranger. You will be assigned a gorilla family and receive safety instructions for the trek. The gorilla trek typically lasts 2 to 5 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.
As you trek through the dense rainforest and volcanic slopes, enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle, including the calls of birds and sightings of other primates. Upon reaching the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing their behavior, feeding habits, and playful interactions, capturing once-in-a-lifetime photographs.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you have the option of a guided golden monkey tracking experience or a short nature hike to the nearby waterfalls. In the evening, relax at the lodge, sharing stories of your incredible gorilla encounter over dinner.
